Man Sets 20-Year-Old Milwaukee Woman on Fire Over Alleged Affair

California (Thechieftainspear) – Kania Brunson was a young woman full of ambition and energy, with dreams of becoming an orthodontist or veterinarian. She also had a passion for cosmetology and was known for her radiant smile. However, behind her bright future was a secret relationship that would ultimately lead to a horrific tragedy.

According to the Milwaukee Prosecutor’s Office, Kania had been involved with Sultan Shareef, a married man 34 years her senior, since she was a teenager. Over the years, she developed deep feelings for him. But their relationship took a dark turn in mid-September 2022, when Sultan expressed to Kania’s mother, Jennifer Meadows, that he wanted to end things because Kania had started reaching out to his wife.

Prosecutors say that when Kania contacted Sultan’s wife in hopes of exposing their relationship, he made the deadly decision to silence her.

On September 24, 2022, Sultan reportedly called his longtime friend, Carvester Carver, for assistance. When Carver arrived at an auto shop, he found Kania in the back seat of her car, bleeding as Sultan repeatedly stabbed her with a screwdriver. Despite having her throat slit, Kania managed to cry out for help, screaming, “He cut my throat.” Carver attempted to intervene, but Sultan brandished a firearm and drove off with Kania. Carver immediately called 911, providing a description of the car and a partial license plate number.

That same day, Milwaukee resident Justin Fields noticed a fire in an alley near Keefe Avenue and Palmer Street. Initially, he assumed it was burning trash, but as he looked closer, he saw human limbs among the flames.

Authorities later identified the burned body as Kania Brunson. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds before being set on fire and left in the alley.

Investigators soon questioned Sultan’s wife, who provided an alibi for him. However, surveillance footage contradicted her statement, revealing her deception.

Police eventually arrested Sultan Shareef and his brother-in-law, Johnny Hopgood. During the trial, Carver testified against Sultan, recalling the brutal attack. “I saw you stabbing that girl with a Phillips-head screwdriver,” he stated in court.

Hopgood accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to time served along with 10 years of probation. As for Sultan Shareef, he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 12 years .
