Man Charged with Killing Ex-Girlfriend’s New Boyfriend in Ventura County

Ventura County(Thechieftainspear) – A 24-year-old Salinas man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man who was dating his former girlfriend, authorities announced.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office identified the suspect as Gonzalo Garcia Rodriguez, who is accused of killing 26-year-old Eugenio Lopez Ramirez in late February.

According to investigators, the attack took place on the night of February 23, when Garcia Rodriguez allegedly stabbed Ramirez multiple times before fleeing the scene. Officers responding to reports of an injured man found Ramirez suffering from stab wounds near Wilson Avenue and First Street in Oxnard. Authorities believe he was attacked at a different location and later collapsed in that area.

Ramirez was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.

After a two-week investigation, detectives identified Garcia Rodriguez as the primary suspect, revealing that he had previously been in a relationship with the victim’s girlfriend. However, officials have not released details about what led to the violent confrontation.

At the time of his arrest, Garcia Rodriguez was already in custody for an unrelated domestic violence case. On March 13, prosecutors formally charged him with first-degree murder.

In addition to the murder charge, he faces special allegations, including the use of a deadly weapon, inflicting great bodily harm, and targeting a vulnerable victim.

Garcia Rodriguez entered a not-guilty plea during his arraignment and remains jailed without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 21 for an early disposition conference.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and encourage anyone with information to come forward .
