Los Angeles County(Thechieftainspear) – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) faced a temporary disruption in its emergency 911 system on Wednesday, affecting all 23 of its patrol stations.
According to a statement from LASD officials, the outage occurred shortly after 11 a.m. and was linked to a voltage fluctuation from an external utility provider. While the disruption lasted for approximately 20 minutes, sheriff’s personnel activated backup protocols to manage emergency calls, though details on these procedures were not disclosed.
Some Areas Restored Faster Than Others
Officials noted that while all stations were impacted, some locations were able to regain 911 service sooner than others. The department has not specified which areas were most affected by the outage.

This incident marks another technical challenge for LASD in recent months. On New Year’s Eve, a separate issue involving the department’s computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) prevented deputies from accessing their mobile computers in patrol vehicles as the calendar switched to 2025. That malfunction persisted from December 31, 2024, until January 2, though radio and 911 communications remained functional during that time.
Internal Review Underway
Following Wednesday’s outage, LASD confirmed that the 911 system has been fully restored. The department is now conducting an internal assessment to evaluate the impact of the disruption and ensure future reliability.
“Despite this brief interruption, our deputies quickly adapted, maintaining their commitment to public safety,” LASD officials stated in a news release .
