San Bernardino County(Thechieftainspear) – A Rancho Cucamonga woman has been arrested in connection with the overdose death of a 10-year-old boy, authorities announced.
San Bernardino County deputies responded to a call in December 2024 regarding an unresponsive child at a residence on the 9000 block of Arrow Route. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, the young boy, later identified as Nathaniel Castro Mendoza, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an extensive investigation, the San Bernardino County Coroner determined in February 2025 that the child’s cause of death was a toxic overdose involving fentanyl and xylazine.

Authorities identified 32-year-old Christina Alvarez of Rancho Cucamonga as the suspect in the case. Investigators allege that Alvarez possessed and improperly stored fentanyl in a way that resulted in the child’s death.
On March 14, she was arrested and formally charged with child endangerment by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. Alvarez is currently being held on a $100,000 bond, and her preliminary court hearing is scheduled for April 1.
Officials have not disclosed additional details, including how Alvarez and the child were connected or the specific circumstances leading up to the fatal overdose.
