Suspect Escapes CHP in Wild Southern California High-Speed Chase

California (Thechieftainspear) – Authorities are searching for a motorist who managed to temporarily evade capture following a chaotic high-speed pursuit through multiple freeways in the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday evening. The incident marked the third police chase in Southern California within just three hours.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initiated the pursuit around 6:30 p.m. after spotting a dark-colored sedan traveling on the 405 Freeway. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over, leading to a dangerous chase.

At some point during the pursuit, the suspect called 911 and spoke with CHP dispatchers, reportedly claiming that the vehicle’s brakes had failed, making it impossible to stop. However, officials have not yet confirmed this detail.

CHP officers instructed the driver to stop accelerating and later attempted a PIT maneuver, which failed but partially tore off the car’s rear bumper.

Adding another layer of confusion, the driver allegedly told dispatchers he needed to pick up his child from daycare before abruptly ending the call.

The chase continued as the suspect transitioned onto the 101 Freeway, weaving through heavy traffic and speeding along the shoulder. The motorist then merged onto the 170 Freeway before exiting at Oxnard Street.

Upon reaching a stoplight, the driver maneuvered through traffic and pulled into the NoHo West shopping center. The vehicle was later found abandoned on the first floor of a parking structure near a Starbucks.

Despite efforts to locate the suspect, CHP and LAPD suspended the search shortly before 7 p.m. There were unconfirmed reports that the car’s license plate was registered to an address just two blocks away. However, no arrests have been reported.

This dramatic pursuit was part of a series of police chases that unfolded that day. Earlier, Ventura County authorities arrested three individuals suspected of retail theft after a high-speed chase exceeding 100 mph. Not long after, Simi Valley police apprehended a man driving a stolen work van who recklessly sped through the Santa Monica Pier, nearly hitting pedestrians .
