California (Thechieftainspear) – A California family is seeking justice after their 11-year-old daughter was allegedly forced to cover her mouth with duct tape as punishment for talking too much at school.
The incident took place on March 24 at Blair Middle School in Pasadena, where sixth-grader Noemi Hurtado was reportedly disciplined by a female security officer during lunch.
Alleged Punishment for Talking Too Loudly
According to Noemi’s father, Ricardo Hurtado, his daughter was enjoying lunch with her friends when a school security officer warned her about being too loud. When Noemi continued talking, the officer allegedly took her to the principal’s office and ordered her to put duct tape over her own mouth.
“I got a phone call that no parent ever wants to get,” Ricardo said. “She was just playing with her friends, and then suddenly, she’s being humiliated in front of the whole school.”

After applying the tape, the officer reportedly paraded Noemi across the campus and even took her to a nearby high school, an act her parents believe was meant to publicly shame her.
Security Guard’s Actions Spark Outrage
Ricardo said that when Noemi arrived at her next class, the security officer told the teacher not to remove the tape, claiming the child had trouble keeping quiet.
However, another school security official, identified as Julio, witnessed what happened and intervened. He escorted Noemi out of class, reassured her she wasn’t in trouble, and took her back to the principal’s office.
The school principal later confirmed the incident took place and fired the security guard involved.
School District Responds
Following the incident, the Pasadena Unified School District released a statement emphasizing their commitment to student safety:
“The safety and well-being of our students are our top priority. We are aware of allegations involving a former substitute security officer. As a result, this individual is no longer employed by the district. We take concerns like this very seriously and are cooperating fully with the Pasadena Police Department. We are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our students.”
Family Seeks Legal Action
Noemi’s parents filed a police report and are calling for legal consequences against the security officer.
“This is completely unacceptable,” Ricardo said. “An 11-year-old child should never be subjected to this kind of humiliation. We want justice.”
The Pasadena Police Department is now investigating the matter, while the family considers further legal action.
