Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead inside a crashed vehicle in Pasadena. The victim, now identified by family members as Ivan Cervantes-Cruz, was found on the evening of March 26 in the 700 block of Rio Grande Street, near El Molino Avenue.
Crash Leads to Grim Discovery
Police responded to the scene around 6 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle collision. When officers arrived, they discovered that Cervantes-Cruz, a resident of El Monte, had lost control of his car, jumped a curb, and crashed into a retaining wall in a residential neighborhood.
Paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but tragically, the 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eyewitness Accounts
A witness who was driving nearby recalled seeing the victim’s car speeding before it veered off the road and slammed into the yard of a home. After the impact, the car’s wheels continued spinning, and the witness, along with another resident, approached the vehicle to check on the driver.

Upon closer inspection, they found Cervantes-Cruz slumped over in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Cervantes-Cruz, describing him as a kind-hearted and responsible young man. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses, with loved ones remembering him as someone who always put others before himself and carried a strong sense of respect and kindness.

Authorities have not yet provided details on what led to the shooting or any potential suspects.
