Los Angeles (Thechieftainspear) – A father and son have been charged with federal crimes for allegedly trafficking fentanyl and illegally selling firearms in Los Angeles, authorities announced.
According to the Department of Justice, the pair is accused of distributing approximately 4.4 pounds of fentanyl pills while also engaging in illegal firearm sales, including multiple weapons and rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were identified as 55-year-old Antonio Espinoza Zarate from the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles and his 31-year-old son, Francisco Javier Espinoza Galindo of Santa Monica. Law enforcement officers took them into custody in Los Angeles County on March 26.

Court filings indicate that Antonio sold a pistol, a rifle, 131 rounds of ammunition, and more than a pound of fentanyl pills to a buyer in July 2023. Authorities noted that he was not licensed to deal firearms and was known by the alias “El Gato.”
In August 2023, Antonio allegedly sold an AR-style rifle and over two pounds of fentanyl pills, with Francisco reportedly supplying the drugs and firearms for the transaction.
By January 2025, Antonio was again implicated in selling a variety of firearms, including a rifle, a pistol, and a revolver, along with ammunition. The following month, he allegedly sold over a pound of fentanyl pills to a confidential informant while his son was present. This deal ultimately led to their arrests.
Alongside drug and weapons charges, Antonio faces an additional charge for illegally reentering the United States after being deported at least four times. His criminal record includes felony convictions from 2008 for possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
If convicted of all charges, both men could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, according to the DOJ.
