(Thechieftainspear) – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the long-unsolved murder of a 15-year-old boy in Riverside County, nearly 18 years after the crime.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Vincent Gonzales of Lake Elsinore, was taken into custody, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The case dates back to May 5, 2007, when deputies from the Moreno Valley station responded to reports of gunfire in a dirt lot on the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered 15-year-old Clayvaughn Mallet suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The shooter had already fled by the time authorities arrived.
Despite an extensive investigation at the time, detectives were unable to gather enough evidence to make an arrest, and the case eventually went cold.

In 2024, investigators revisited the case and uncovered new evidence, leading them to identify Gonzales as the prime suspect.
On March 28, authorities arrested Gonzales in Lake Elsinore, and he was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on murder charges.
As the investigation is still active, officials have not disclosed additional details, including a possible motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
