The Eaton Fire has now claimed 18 lives, while the Palisades Fire has resulted in 12 fatalities.

The fires erupted on Jan. 7, spreading rapidly and leaving behind a path of destruction. Recovery efforts are ongoing as affected communities work to rebuild homes and businesses. The causes of both wildfires remain under investigation.

Southern California Edison is facing legal scrutiny over the Eaton Fire, with more than 600 residents filing lawsuits alleging the utility company played a role in sparking the blaze. Some evidence, including video footage, reportedly shows flames igniting beneath a transmission tower when the fire started. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is currently investigating the fire’s origin.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is leading the inquiry into the cause of the Palisades Fire.
