(Thechieftainspear) – Authorities in San Bernardino shot and killed a man Saturday evening after he reportedly attempted to harm his juvenile son with a knife, according to local police.
The San Bernardino Police Department said officers were dispatched around 5:32 p.m. to the 1000 block of North Mountain View Avenue following reports of a violent domestic situation.
The initial 911 call came from a relative who claimed the man was threatening to kill his child. Moments later, additional calls from bystanders reported a man chasing a young boy in the street while armed with a knife.
Responding officers encountered a man matching the description given by callers. While his identity has not yet been released, police confirmed that he was armed and refused repeated commands to drop the knife.

According to a police statement, officers first attempted to de-escalate the situation by using non-lethal tactics, including a Taser and bean bag rounds. However, the man allegedly continued to resist and became increasingly aggressive, swinging the knife and attempting to return toward the house.
At that point, officers fired their weapons, striking the man. He was immediately given medical attention at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A knife was recovered at the scene following the incident.
The San Bernardino Police Department is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact Detective T. Montez at (909) 384-5762 or Montez_Ti@sbcity.org. Those who prefer can also reach out to Sergeant E. Campos at (909) 384-5613 or Campos_er@sbcity.org.
