(Thechieftainspear) – An already strange chain of events in Los Angeles took a more unexpected turn this week, involving a freeway crash, a half-dressed fugitive, and the wife of a rock band member who ended up shot and charged with attempted murder.
The incident unfolded on Monday, April 8, around 3 p.m., on the eastbound 134 Freeway near Figueroa Street in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. The California Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving three men who fled one of the vehicles on foot, prompting a request for assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department.
As officers scoured the neighborhood for the suspects, the situation grew more bizarre. One of the fleeing men was pursued by a local brother and sister, stripped down to his underwear, and tried to disguise himself by jumping into a backyard pool and even watering the homeowner’s plants.
While law enforcement searched the area near Eagle Vista Drive and Waldo Place, a woman reportedly exited a nearby home with a firearm. Police say the woman—later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner—refused repeated commands to drop her weapon. According to LAPD, she then pointed the gun at officers, leading police to open fire.

Shriner was hit in the shoulder and retreated back inside her home. Aerial video from Sky5 showed officers later detaining both Shriner and another woman, believed to be her child’s babysitter, after they exited the house with their hands raised. Both were ordered to lie face-down on the street before being taken into custody.
Shriner was transported to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Although initially released after questioning, LAPD later confirmed she was booked in absentia for attempted murder. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene.
As for the original incident that sparked the chaos, the suspect seen wandering in his boxers was captured and arrested shortly after the police shooting. However, the two other men who fled the crash remain unaccounted for as of the latest update.
No police officers or other community members were injured in the series of events.
Scott Shriner, who joined Weezer in 2001, has recorded a dozen studio albums with the band, which is scheduled to perform at this year’s Coachella music festival.
