A large-scale reckless driving event involving more than 150 vehicles was broken up by Santa Ana police on Sunday night at the Centre On Seventeenth shopping center in Orange County, authorities said.
The police responded to the takeover, which had been taking place in the parking lot, and arrested at least one individual. The incident was captured on body camera footage.
Santa Ana Police officers arrived at the scene to find a large group of vehicles gathered in the lot. After repeatedly instructing the drivers to disperse, the situation escalated when one driver began performing dangerous “donuts” in the parking lot.

The driver, who was not identified, was detained by officers, issued a citation for reckless driving and driving without a license, and had their vehicle impounded. The Santa Ana Police Department described the consequences as “not cheap.”
Body camera footage from the incident revealed bystanders shouting as the officers handled the situation. The department emphasized its commitment to addressing reckless driving and street racing, stating, “Santa Ana PD has zero tolerance for reckless driving and street racing.”
While one arrest was made, no additional arrests were reported by the department as of Monday evening. The police continue to investigate the event.
