(Thechieftainspear) – A San Bernardino woman is facing serious charges after authorities say she stole hundreds of pieces of mail, along with numerous personal documents, including IDs and bank cards, and used them to commit fraud throughout San Bernardino County.
Rachel Sandoval, 40, was taken into custody on April 16 at her San Bernardino home following an investigation led by the Fontana Sheriff’s Station. Deputies say Sandoval had already been out on bail for a separate identity theft case when she was arrested.
The case began on March 10, when a suspect was spotted using a stolen U.S. Postal Service master key to access a cluster mailbox in the Rosena Ranch neighborhood. A witness reported the incident and managed to capture the license plate of a 2022 white Dodge Charger, which the suspect used to flee the scene.
Authorities confirmed the vehicle was a rental and, with the help of surveillance footage and other evidence, identified Sandoval as the person behind the theft.

A subsequent search of her home revealed hundreds of stolen mail items, the stolen USPS master key, and numerous credit cards, Social Security cards, EBT cards, and other forms of ID. Detectives also recovered Sandoval’s phone, which reportedly contained hundreds of images linked to identity theft and fraud.
Investigators say Sandoval used the stolen credit cards to make purchases at various retail stores across San Bernardino County.
She was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is currently being held without bail.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department believes there could be additional victims tied to the case. Authorities released Sandoval’s photo, along with an image of the suspect vehicle, in hopes that members of the public may come forward.
Anyone with information or who believes they may have been affected is asked to contact Detective Pedersen at 909-356-6767.
