$4M in Stolen Cargo Recovered from South American Theft Crew in L.A.

(Thechieftainspear) – Authorities in Los Angeles have announced a major bust involving a South American cargo theft ring, recovering nearly $4 million in stolen goods and arresting two key suspects tied to the operation.

Oscar David Borrero-Manchola, 41, and Yonaiker Rafael Martinez-Ramos, 25, were identified as significant players in the organized crew. While the exact timing of their arrests was not disclosed, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that the suspects were apprehended following a lengthy and thorough investigation.

Search warrants executed at multiple storage facilities in the San Fernando Valley led investigators to a massive haul of stolen merchandise. Recovered items included over $1.2 million worth of tequila, electronics, shoes, coffee, pet food, body wash, and apparel.

Even more valuable was the recovery of $2.7 million in stolen bitcoin mining computers. The equipment had vanished from Los Angeles International Airport just before it was set to be flown to Hong Kong.

Martinez-Ramos is currently being held without bail after his arrest on a no-bail warrant. Meanwhile, Borrero-Manchola was cited for receiving stolen property and subsequently released, according to LAPD officials.

The sting was coordinated by the LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division, Cargo Theft Unit, with support from the Los Angeles Port Police, Union Pacific Police Department, and L.A. World Airport Police.

“This operation demonstrates the power of inter-agency collaboration in tackling large-scale cargo theft and protecting our commercial infrastructure,” the LAPD said in a statement. The case remains active, and additional arrests are possible as the investigation continues.

Authorities are asking anyone with further information to contact LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division at 213-486-5920. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.lacrimestoppers.org
