(Thechieftainspear) – New information has surfaced surrounding a violent high-speed chase that began in Anaheim and ended with the suspect dead in Santa Ana after a dramatic crash and an officer-involved shooting.
The incident unfolded on the evening of April 16 when Anaheim police were dispatched to the Kona Motel, located at 331 N. Brookhurst Street, following reports of a shooting. Officers arrived around 8 p.m. and discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. His condition was later described as stable after being transported to the hospital.
Authorities quickly broadcast a description of the suspect’s getaway vehicle—a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck—seen fleeing southbound on Brookhurst Street. Not long after, patrol units located the vehicle near Brookhurst and Lincoln Avenue and attempted a traffic stop. When the driver failed to comply, a pursuit ensued.
The chase spanned roughly 45 minutes, with officers pursuing the vehicle through surface streets and onto the freeway. Several attempts were made to stop the truck using PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuvers.

The pursuit came to a dramatic and deadly end in Santa Ana near the 1400 block of W. Memory Lane. Helicopter footage captured the moment an officer successfully disabled the truck, sending it crashing into a guardrail and then careening into the bridge’s center divider. As the disabled vehicle began smoking, police surrounded it and opened fire.
According to a statement from the Anaheim Police Department, eight officers discharged their weapons. The driver, believed to be around 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Fire Authority. His identity is being withheld pending official confirmation from the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
A handgun was recovered inside the vehicle, according to the California Department of Justice, which is also investigating the officer-involved shooting alongside Santa Ana detectives.
Remarkably, the male passenger in the truck was unharmed. He was taken in for questioning but later released without charges.
The motive behind the initial shooting at the motel remains unclear as the investigation continues. Anaheim Police are asking anyone with information to reach out to the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
