(Thechieftainspear) – A 66-year-old man from Riverside County was arrested earlier this month for allegedly posing as an attorney during a court session. Investigators now suspect he may have targeted additional victims through his fraudulent activities.
Erick Porras Rivera, a resident of Upland, was reportedly caught on April 16 after deputies at the Riverside County Courthouse were tipped off that he was not a licensed attorney. Rivera fled the scene when his true identity was uncovered.
An investigation ensued, with detectives discovering that Rivera had been falsely claiming to be a practicing lawyer in Orange County. Authorities believe he had been collecting retainer fees from a client under the pretense of offering legal services.
A warrant was issued for Rivera’s arrest, and he was apprehended at his home in the 200 block of West 9th Street in Upland. Upon searching his residence, law enforcement officials found several items that linked him to the alleged crime.

Rivera has since been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of false impersonation, theft by false pretenses, burglary, and unauthorized practice of law.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and are concerned there may be additional victims who were deceived by Rivera’s fraudulent actions.
Anyone who may have fallen victim to Rivera’s scheme or has information about the case is urged to contact Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Bodnar at 951-776-1099 or the Sheriff’s Court Service Division at 951-955-2420.
