Manhattan Beach Tragedy: High School Senior Dies in Alleged DUI Incident

(Thechieftainspear) – A tragic accident early Sunday morning in Manhattan Beach claimed the life of a high school senior, whose identity has now been confirmed as Braun Levi. The incident occurred when Levi, 18, was struck by a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old woman suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The collision took place around 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Ronda Drive, as Levi was walking with a friend. When officers from the Manhattan Beach Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Levi lying in the roadway next to the suspect’s vehicle. Emergency responders from the Manhattan Beach Fire Department transported Levi to the hospital, where despite efforts to save his life, he was declared dead from his injuries.

The driver, identified as Jenia Belt, was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of DUI. Video footage captured by KTLA shows Belt’s vehicle heavily damaged, with a shattered windshield, behind crime scene tape, and the driver being escorted by officers in handcuffs.

A memorial has since been established at the crash site, with flowers, photographs, and tributes left in honor of Levi. He was a senior at Loyola High School, where he was known as a dedicated student and athlete, serving as the captain of the tennis team. He had been accepted to the University of Virginia and was set to graduate this spring.

Loyola High School community members have expressed their grief, remembering Levi as a bright and uplifting presence. “Braun was a shining light in our Loyola family, inspiring joy, kindness, and positivity in everyone he met,” said Principal Jamal K. Adams in a message to the school.

A prayer vigil was held earlier on campus, where mourners gathered to honor Levi’s memory. Loyola High School officials also announced that their Counseling Department is available to support students, faculty, and staff during this difficult time.
