A tragic plane crash in Simi Valley on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of two individuals and a dog, while also causing extensive damage to nearby homes, officials confirmed.
Around 2 p.m., first responders rushed to the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch community after reports that a small plane had crashed into two residences. The crash ignited a fire, sending thick smoke and flames billowing into the air.
Ring security footage captured the devastating moment the plane crashed into the side of the homes, erupting in a loud explosion. Thankfully, residents inside the homes were able to evacuate before the fire spread.
One neighbor shared with KTLA’s Omar Lewis that he was trimming trees outside when he noticed the plane flying at an unusually low altitude and appearing tilted. Realizing something was wrong, he quickly informed his wife, but moments later, the plane crashed precisely where he had been working.
Cell phone footage taken shortly after the crash showed dark smoke filling the sky, with sirens blaring as firefighters battled the flames consuming the two-story homes.

The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed later in the evening that the crash resulted in the deaths of the pilot, a passenger, and a dog on board the aircraft.
While the identities of the victims have not been disclosed, unverified reports suggest that the plane was owned by a pilot known for rescuing dogs, leading some to speculate that the dog involved may have been one of the rescued animals.
