OG Maco – OG Maco, the rapper renowned for his 2014 hit “U Guessed It,” has tragically passed away at the age of 32.
According to an exclusive report by TMZ, the artist had been hospitalized since December 12 after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Initial false reports of his death circulated on social media following the incident at his Los Angeles home, but OG Maco was alive and rushed to the hospital after a neighbor’s 911 call alerted authorities to a gunshot. Police later recovered a firearm near the scene.
At the time, his manager, Poppa Percccc, urged fans for prayers, stating that Maco was in critical condition but still fighting for his life.
Despite doctors’ efforts to stabilize him and address complications, including challenges in obtaining a proper brain scan to drain toxins from his system, OG Maco’s health deteriorated. While in a coma, his condition became critical, and he tragically passed away last night surrounded by family at a Los Angeles hospital.
A Prominent Voice in Hip-Hop
Born Benedict Ihesiba Jr., OG Maco rose to fame in the mid-2010s with the viral success of “U Guessed It,” which climbed the Billboard Hot 100 and received a remix featuring 2 Chainz. A native of Georgia, Maco was among the first wave of artists signed to Quality Control Music and earned a spot in XXL’s coveted 2015 Freshman Class alongside artists like Fetty Wap and DeJ Loaf.

Fans and peers alike have taken to social media to honor Maco’s legacy and address the importance of mental health. “RIP OG MACO… THANK YOU FOR ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE,” one fan wrote. Another emphasized the struggles of mental illness: “Suicide is not the answer. Mental illness is real, especially among Black men who often suffer in silence. Check on your people.”
A third tribute added, “RIP OG Maco and all the other rap angels we lost this year.”
