California – California Attorney General Rob Bonta is urging residents to submit claims for a $50 million gas antitrust settlement by January 8, 2025. Californians who purchased gas in Southern California between February 20, 2015, and November 10, 2015, are eligible to file a claim for payment. Out-of-state visitors and those who bought gas on behalf of a business between February 18, 2015, and May 31, 2017, are also entitled to compensation.

The settlement stems from allegations that gas trading firms Vitol, Inc., SK Energy Americas, Inc., and SK Trading International conspired to manipulate spot market prices for gasoline in California. This was linked to a 2015 explosion at the Torrance refinery, which damaged a critical part of the complex, leading to a refined gasoline shortage in the state. While the explosion caused the supply disruption, the state claims that the firms capitalized on the situation to inflate prices illegally.
Claimants must submit their forms by January 8, 2025. To learn more about the settlement, submit a claim, or explore additional options, visit www.CalGasLitigation.com.
