30 Homeless Individuals Relocated from Los Angeles County Encampment in Recent Operation

L.A. County – Earlier this month, 30 homeless individuals were relocated from an encampment in Santa Fe Springs as part of a collaborative effort led by L.A. County’s Pathway Home program. The operation took place on December 19, with assistance from local agencies and the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

The encampment, located along the San Gabriel River and the 605 Freeway, consisted of makeshift structures and tents where the homeless had been living. As part of the operation, individuals were temporarily housed in local motels while efforts were made to clear the site of debris and deteriorating structures.

Ivan Sulic, Deputy for L.A. County’s Homeless Initiatives and Outreach, explained that the Pathway Home program aims to address homelessness efficiently by quickly providing shelter and necessary services to individuals. “The goal is to bring people inside, triage them, and provide services so we can eliminate large encampments in our communities,” Sulic said. “This is a win-win for the quality of life in the community and for those experiencing homelessness.”

Multiple agencies played a role in the operation, including the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Santa Fe Springs, and the L.A. County Department of Public Works.

L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn emphasized that offering support to entire encampments helps increase the likelihood of individuals accepting assistance. “I’m grateful for the outreach workers, first responders, and public works employees who helped get these 30 individuals inside and on their way to long-term housing,” Hahn said.

Santa Fe Springs Mayor Bill Rounds praised the program for its focus on restoring dignity and providing long-term opportunities for the homeless. “This innovative program is not just about providing shelter; it’s about giving people hope and a chance for a better future,” Rounds said.
