Poisoned Christmas Cake Causes Tragedy: Three Women Dead in Brazil Family Incident

Brazil -A family gathering in Brazil took a tragic turn on December 23 when three women died and three others fell ill after eating a cake. The cake, a traditional Brazilian Christmas treat called Bolo de Natal, was baked by two of the family members, Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, 58, and her sister, Zeli Terezinha Silva dos Anjos, 61, who is currently in the hospital.

Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, 43, and Maida both died on the same day after consuming the cake. Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjo, 65, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but passed away the following day. A 10-year-old boy and two other family members also fell ill but are stable and recovering in the hospital.

The cake was consumed by seven family members at Zeli’s home, with only one person abstaining. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the deaths, with officer Marcos Vinicius Veloso leading the inquiry. Initial findings revealed that expired products, including mayonnaise, were found in the house, and a suspicious white liquid in a medicine bottle will also undergo testing.

The investigation has expanded to include the exhumation of Zeli’s husband, who died of food poisoning in September. Police will reopen the investigation into his death once Zeli is discharged from the hospital and will question her further.

While the official cause of death for Tatiana and Maida was cardiac arrest, Neuza died from shock after food poisoning. Authorities are awaiting test results to confirm what substances might have contributed to the poisonings.
