Minneapolis, Chisago County – Two people were killed and another was left with life-threatening injuries following a head-on collision in eastern Minnesota on Monday afternoon.
Fatal Crash in Shafer Township
What happened: The crash occurred in Shafer Township, located just outside Taylor Falls near the Wisconsin border. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a driver heading east on Highway 8 crossed over the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver, a 59-year-old man from Amery, Wisconsin, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The other vehicle’s driver, a 55-year-old woman from Minneapolis, sustained life-threatening injuries, while her 61-year-old female passenger, also from Minneapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene.
What we know:
The cause of the crash remains unclear, but authorities noted that road conditions were wet at the time of the incident. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

This crash adds to the growing number of traffic-related fatalities in the state, with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety reporting at least 458 fatalities in 2024.
