Kent Homicide: Three Arrested for 2023 Murder of Amy Dyke

King County , Washington  – Three men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Amy Dyke in Kent, Washington, on July 27, 2023. The charges were filed on December 23, 2024, against Jaiquane Sherrod Wheeler, 27, Dwight Harris, 48, and Artavious Zyshun Magee, 24. The trio is accused of firing as many as 58 rounds at Dyke’s vehicle around 1:50 a.m. in the 23900 block of 112th Avenue SE. Dyke, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and passed away at Harborview Medical Center a day later.

The shooting took place as Dyke was in a vehicle leaving the Guidepost Montessori School parking lot, which is adjacent to the Phoenix Court Apartments. Police initially believed the shooting was not random, as Dyke had been visiting friends at the apartments before the incident. A key witness, who had known the suspects, provided information in December 2024 that helped identify the men. Surveillance footage from a McDonald’s near the apartments and other evidence led to the arrests of the three men. They are scheduled to be arraigned on January 6, 2025, at the Maleng Regional Justice Center.

Investigators Reveal Details of the Murder

The men are also facing charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm due to their criminal histories. The investigation, which has been described as complex and lengthy, identified the suspects after a witness recognized them in surveillance images. The witness had met the men at the Phoenix Court Apartments during the summer of 2023.

He allegedly shot Jeffery Ray Winn, 43, and attempted to shoot another individual. Additionally, Wheeler and Harris face charges for a drive-by shooting that took place shortly after the murder of Dyke, in which they opened fire at a parked car and an apartment building, causing damage and putting children at risk.
