New Orleans – Former Princeton football player Martin “Tiger” Bech was tragically killed in a truck attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter on New Year’s Day. He was one of at least 15 victims when a pickup truck was driven into a crowd in the early hours of the holiday. Bech, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, graduated from Princeton in 2021 and had been working as a stockbroker in New York City. He was in New Orleans for the holidays and was reportedly killed while returning to his hotel with a friend. His sister confirmed that Bech succumbed to internal injuries, including head trauma, several hours after the attack.
Bech played football at Princeton from 2017 to 2019 as a wide receiver and kick returner. Over his collegiate career, he recorded 53 receptions for 825 yards and scored three touchdowns. His excellence as a return specialist earned him two All-Ivy honors. Princeton head coach Bob Surace remembered Bech as a “ferocious competitor with endless energy, a beloved teammate, and a caring friend.” Surace shared, “There was no more appropriate nickname for a Princeton player I coached. He was a ‘Tiger’ in every way.”

Bech’s younger brother, Jack Bech, currently a wide receiver for the TCU Horned Frogs, confirmed on social media that Martin was among the victims. Jack expressed his grief, writing, “Love you always, brother! You inspired me every day, and now you get to be with me in every moment. I got this family T, don’t worry. This is for us.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses for Martin Bech and to cover medical costs for his friend, Ryan Quigley, who was with him during the attack. The campaign has raised over $75,000 in support.
Martin “Tiger” Bech’s legacy as a dedicated athlete and beloved individual will live on through the lives he touched, both on and off the field.
