Minneapolis – A man has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for causing the hit-and-run death of a classic car owner in Minneapolis in 2023.
Presley Aaron Peltier, 28, was sentenced in Hennepin County Court after being convicted of criminal vehicular homicide in the death of 55-year-old Andrew Hyde on July 18, 2023. Peltier was also convicted for injuring an officer during an attempted arrest on August 26, 2023.
Hyde was driving his cherished 1964 Chevy Impala when he was struck by a stolen Hyundai SUV at the intersection of Washington and North 22nd Avenues. Authorities believe Peltier was driving the Hyundai, which fled the scene after the collision.

Weeks later, a Minneapolis police officer discovered a suspicious vehicle with an unresponsive driver, later identified as Peltier. When the officer attempted to arrest Peltier, he tried to flee, dragging the officer partially through the driver’s side door before crashing the vehicle into a nearby support pillar. The officer was able to escape unscathed.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty expressed condolences to Hyde’s family, stating, “Andrew Hyde was enjoying driving his prized 1964 Chevrolet Impala convertible on a sunny July day when he was killed by Mr. Peltier in another tragic instance of reckless driving. In both incidents, Mr. Peltier showed blatant disregard for the safety of those around him and he is being held accountable.”
Peltier has received 496 days of credit for time served.
