Mexican Firefighters Arrive at LAX to Assist in Los Angeles Wildfire Battle

Governor Gavin Newsom welcomed more than 70 firefighters from Mexico at Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday to assist in combating some of California’s most devastating wildfires. The firefighters, part of Mexico’s National Forestry Commission and Ministry of Defense, will join the over 14,000 personnel already working to contain the blazes.

Newsom expressed his gratitude, stating, “Emergencies have no borders — we are deeply grateful to our neighbors in Mexico for their unwavering support during one of our greatest times of need. Thank you to President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for lending the best of the best.”

The Mexican firefighters will form handcrews to assist in the ongoing firefighting efforts, which have been challenged by widespread devastation. As of Saturday, evacuation orders remain in place for tens of thousands of residents due to the Palisades and Eaton Fires, which have destroyed at least 5,000 structures.

The Palisades Fire, the largest blaze in the area, has scorched over 22,660 acres and prompted further evacuations in Mandeville Canyon, Brentwood, Encino, and Tarzana. Despite the scale of the destruction, the addition of the Mexican firefighting teams will help bolster the state’s ongoing battle against these catastrophic wildfires.
