PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, New Jersey — A man who terrorized a woman inside a Morris County hotel room — striking her with a firearm, binding her to a chair with duct tape and zip ties, and robbing her before leaving her trapped — has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison.

Louis M. Verdesoto, 35, formerly of West New York, was sentenced on May 29 by Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Richard Pantina.

What Happened Inside That Hotel Room

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours at the Ramada by Wyndham Parsippany on Route 46.

According to prosecutors, Verdesoto approached the victim and struck her in the face with a firearm. He then let a second, still-unidentified man into the hotel room.

Together, the two men duct-taped and zip-tied the woman to a chair and demanded money from her.

Once they had what they came for, they walked out — leaving her bound and alone in the room.

The victim was able to free herself and call police. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for multiple head injuries and facial lacerations.

How Investigators Tracked Him Down

Detectives pieced together a timeline of the attack and identified Verdesoto as a suspect.

He was arrested on August 6, 2024, in West New York — more than two months after the robbery took place on May 26, 2024.

When investigators searched his vehicle, they found a revolver and zip ties. Clothing that matched what was captured on the hotel’s surveillance footage was also recovered from his last known residence.

The evidence painted a clear picture.

Guilty Plea and the Sentence

On September 19, 2025, Verdesoto pleaded guilty to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.

He had remained behind bars from the time of his arrest through sentencing.

Judge Hanna sentenced him to 13 years in New Jersey state prison. The sentence falls under the No Early Release Act, meaning Verdesoto must serve at least 85 percent of that time — roughly 11 years — before he becomes eligible for parole.

A Case That Reminded Residents What Can Happen

Hotel corridors, parking lots, and unfamiliar rooms are spaces where people expect a basic level of safety. This case is a reminder that violent crime can follow someone through a door they thought was locked.

For the victim, the road to recovery — physically and emotionally — began the moment she broke free from that chair and made the call for help. Her courage to do so, and to see this case through, led directly to a convicted armed robber being removed from the community for over a decade.
