Fact-Checking Policies

At The Chieftains Pear, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of journalistic integrity. Accurate, verified, and truthful reporting is the foundation of everything we publish. This Fact-Checking Policy outlines how we verify information before and after publication.

1. Our Commitment to Accuracy

We believe that accuracy is non-negotiable in journalism. Before any story is published on The Chieftains Pear, our editorial team takes deliberate steps to verify the facts presented in each piece. We do not rush to publish unverified information, even in breaking news situations.

2. Primary Source Verification

Wherever possible, our reporters and editors verify information through primary sources, including:

•        Official government and law enforcement statements

•        Court documents and public records

•        Direct interviews with subjects, experts, or eyewitnesses

•        Peer-reviewed research and academic publications

•        Official press releases and verified social media accounts

3. Multiple Source Confirmation

We follow the journalistic standard of confirming important claims with at least two independent, credible sources before publishing. For breaking news or developing stories, we clearly indicate when a story is developing and that facts may be updated as more information becomes available.

4. Use of Wire Services and External Sources

When we republish or cite content from wire services, news agencies, or other publications, we attribute the source clearly. We do not simply reprint external content without editorial review. Any factual claims made in cited content are held to the same verification standards.

5. Crime News Fact-Checking

For crime-related stories, all information is sourced from official law enforcement agencies, court filings, or official spokespersons. We never publish the names of suspects without official confirmation of charges or arrest. Allegations are always presented as unproven until a court verdict has been delivered.

6. Weather News Fact-Checking

Weather-related content is sourced from recognized and official meteorological authorities, including the National Weather Service, NOAA, and accredited weather platforms. We do not publish unofficial weather predictions as fact.

7. Corrections Policy

Despite our rigorous fact-checking process, errors can sometimes occur. When a factual error is identified — whether by our team or reported by a reader — we follow this process:

•        The error is reviewed and confirmed by an editor

•        The article is corrected promptly with a clearly visible correction notice

•        The correction note includes a brief description of what was changed and why

•        We do not silently delete or alter articles without acknowledgment

8. Opinion and Commentary

Fact-checking standards apply to factual claims made within opinion and commentary pieces. However, opinions and interpretations are not subject to fact-checking in the same manner as news reporting. All opinion content is clearly labeled.

9. Reader-Submitted Tips and Corrections

We actively encourage readers to flag potential inaccuracies. If you believe something we’ve published is factually incorrect, please contact us at:

Email: [email protected]

We take all correction requests seriously and will investigate and respond within 48–72 hours.

10. Transparency

We are committed to being transparent with our readers about our reporting process. If a story is based on a limited number of sources or if key details could not be independently verified, we will clearly state this within the article.
