Bellevue best place to live? Not quite

About a week ago I read an article from Money Magazine that listed Bellevue as the “Best place to live in Nebraska.” Upon reading, I had to chuckle, do a double take, and realize that I was not mistaken. I was in fact looking at the best places to live in every state and not the worst places to live in every state.

While I can give enough credit to the small suburb just off Omaha, the place I am supposed to call home, to say that it is not the worst place to live in Nebraska; I cannot imagine saying it is the best. From the stuck in their ways townees to the lack of excitement in Bellevue, there just isn’t much to root for to get us to number one. I even began to wonder if the writer of the article had been to Bellevue before. Probably not.

Maybe I am just bitter, or my heart belongs in a big city somewhere. Either way, a disservice has been done to those throughout America that also laid eyes on the article. I am here to inform you that Bellevue is not the best place to live in Nebraska, not by a long shot.

From tradition to tradition, majority of the folks here are older and therefore are not interested in changing their ways. If anything ever needs to be changed in order to benefit the city, Bellevue’s uninterested. There was even a debate once about adding a gas station because the colors may have clashed with the surrounding buildings.

The oldies are not the only problem. Teenagers run amuck, acting as if they are hard and have something to prove. However, whatever gang it is probably does not even know they exist.

I cannot blame these kids. What else are they going to do with their time? If you want to have even a second of fun, you would have to drive somewhere out of the city. Which is hard to do because there is always construction somewhere that has been going on for what seems like 10 years that should be finished when it is supposed to be.

Unfortunately, I do still have to live here until I go off to college, but I fear for future generations of Bellevue. What will they do when they want to change the ways of the city? We must start early and encourage growth before we fall behind any more.
