It was nearly midnight when the gunshots rang out. On the night of June 2nd, at approximately 11:45 PM, Atlantic City police officers rushed to the 600 block of New York Avenue after reports of a shooting came flooding in.
What they found when they arrived stopped them cold. A 16-year-old girl from Atlantic City was lying wounded — with a life-threatening gunshot injury. She was just a teenager, still at an age where her biggest worries should have been school and summer plans.
Officers immediately rushed her to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center — City Division, where medical staff worked to stabilize her condition. As of now, authorities believe she is expected to survive.
Atlantic City has long marketed itself as the “World’s Playground” — but for residents living blocks away from the casinos, nights like this are a grim reality.
As of this writing, no arrests have been made. No suspect description has been released. Police have not revealed what led to the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
What Happens Next: The Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is now leading the investigation. Detectives are urging anyone who was in the area that night — or anyone who knows something — to come forward immediately.
