He Asked a Teenager to Keep It Down on the Bus — Seconds Later, He Was Shot Dead

A simple request for quiet on a Bronx city bus turned into a fatal shooting in broad daylight — and the suspected killer is still out there.

A 41-year-old man is dead after doing something millions of commuters think about every single day — asking someone to lower their voice on a crowded bus. On Monday afternoon, that ordinary moment cost him his life.

The victim was riding the BX36 bus through the Parkchester neighborhood in the Bronx when he asked a teenager to quiet down on his phone. The teen’s response was anything but ordinary. He pulled out a black handgun and shot the man in the stomach at point-blank range.

The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. at East Tremont Avenue and White Plains Road — a busy intersection in broad daylight, with other passengers on board. Witnesses were left in shock as the gunman fled the scene immediately after firing.

Emergency responders rushed the critically wounded man to Jacobi Medical Center, where doctors fought to save him. He did not survive. By Monday evening, a man was dead — killed for asking a kid to turn it down.

Police describe the suspect as a male between 13 and 16 years old. As of Monday afternoon, he had not been apprehended. The area around the bus was sealed off with yellow crime scene tape, and a blood stain remained visible on the sidewalk as investigators combed the scene for evidence.

MTA cameras were on board the bus at the time of the shooting, and police are expected to review the footage as part of the ongoing investigation.

What Happens Next: The NYPD is actively searching for the teenage suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. The case has already sparked fresh outrage over rising gun violence on New York City’s public transit system.

A man got on a bus to go about his day. He never made it home — because a teenager couldn’t stand being told to pipe down.
