A 25-year-old truck driver lost his life Wednesday morning after a devastating crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 80 in Warren County, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene around 6:55 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 80 near milepost 8 in Knowlton Township.
According to investigators, one tractor-trailer was parked on the highway’s right shoulder when a second tractor-trailer traveling eastbound collided with its rear.
The driver of the moving truck, identified as Karwinder Singh of South Ozone Park, New York, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities said the impact caused the truck he was driving to become fully engulfed in flames. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger traveling with Singh, 24-year-old Mandeep Singh, sustained minor injuries. Officials said no other injuries were reported.
The parked tractor-trailer was on the shoulder when the collision occurred, though investigators have not yet released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The incident caused a significant emergency response as crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the wreckage from the interstate.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Additional information has not yet been released.
