PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting near a school in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood on Wednesday morning, leading to a temporary lockdown as police responded to the scene.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m. on the 4900 block of Knox Street, just a short distance from Fitler School.
Authorities said the teenager was struck by gunfire and was transported to Einstein Medical Center for treatment. He was reported to be in stable condition.
As a precaution, Fitler School was placed on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes while officers secured the area and investigated the incident. School officials later lifted the lockdown after determining there was no immediate threat to students or staff.
Police have not announced any arrests, and no information about a suspect has been released.
Investigators continue to work to determine what led to the shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
