Fentanyl, Firearms & a Child Predator: Apopka's Shocking Week of Arrests Revealed

Apopka, FL — A single week in Apopka left residents stunned as police hauled in 28 suspects on charges ranging from multi-drug trafficking to crimes targeting a teenager.

The Apopka Police Department’s May 17–23 arrest report revealed one of the area’s most alarming weekly tallies — 90 citations, 28 crashes, and over 1,700 calls for service.

The biggest bust came May 21 on Legg Drive, where Chapelle Laquane Teague, 49, was arrested facing simultaneous trafficking charges for fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone, and methamphetamine — all while allegedly in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Violence also erupted across multiple locations. Herbert Richard Cunningham, 30, faces aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery by strangulation after a Grasmere Drive incident. Zackariah Thomas, 30, allegedly fired a weapon near a busy intersection on East Semoran Boulevard.

Most disturbing, investigators arrested Maurice Anthony Roberts, 29, of Orlando — charged with traveling to meet a child after online luring, transmitting harmful material to minors, and sexual battery involving a 16 or 17-year-old victim.

Other arrests swept up DUI offenders, burglars, trespassers, and wanted fugitives holding out-of-county warrants.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
