PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A Thursday afternoon drive turned fatal at one of Pickaway County’s busy intersections, leaving a community shaken and one family devastated.
Around 1:40 p.m., a violent four-vehicle crash unfolded at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Circle Lane — and by the end of the day, a woman had lost her life.
What Happened
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Hyundai Tucson was waiting to turn left onto Circle Lane from northbound U.S. 23. That’s when things went terribly wrong.
Two vehicles were coming southbound — a 2018 Toyota Corolla in the left lane and a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado in the right lane. The Hyundai pulled into the turn without yielding, and the Toyota slammed into it. The force pushed the Hyundai directly into the path of the Silverado, which hit it again — sending the vehicle skidding into a ditch.
The chaos didn’t stop there. A 2020 Hyundai Sonata sitting eastbound on Circle Lane, waiting at the light, was struck by flying debris from the crash.
The Victim
The driver of the Hyundai Tucson, identified as Marilyn Gregg, bore the full force of the collision. She was rushed to OhioHealth Berger Hospital, but her injuries were severe enough that she was airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. She was later pronounced dead. OSHP has not released her age.
No other injuries were reported from the crash.
A Reminder on Ohio Roads
Failure to yield on a left turn remains one of the most deadly — and most preventable — causes of crashes on Ohio highways. OSHP is continuing its investigation into the incident.
