Men Killed in Horrific Collision on Queensboro Bridge Bike Path — 50 MPH Scooter Was Involved

Two men are dead after a head-on crash on the Queensboro Bridge bike path in New York City Thursday morning — and a scooter capable of hitting over 50 mph is at the center of the tragedy.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. during the busy morning commute. A 39-year-old man on a stand-up motorized scooter and a 35-year-old man on a bicycle were traveling in opposite directions when they collided head-on. Emergency responders rushed both victims to Weill Cornell Surgery at New York Presbyterian-Queens, where they were both pronounced dead.

One of the victims, identified only as Allan by his friends, leaves behind a wife and two young children. His close friend Rachel Huynh was shattered by the news. “His wife is in bad shape, especially with the kids. I can’t imagine. He was a really great husband to her,” she said.

Investigators say the scooter involved was capable of exceeding 50 miles per hour — far beyond the city’s 15 mph limit and the state’s 20 mph legal maximum. Authorities say it should never have been on the road at all.

Transportation advocate Ben Furnas called the crash entirely preventable, pushing the City Council to pass the ‘Ride Safe, Ride Right’ bill to ban the most dangerous micromobility devices from bike lanes. Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office pledged to keep removing illegal high-speed devices from city streets.

The victims’ identities have not yet been officially released. This is a developing story.
