OTTUMWA, Iowa — An Ottumwa man is facing a felony theft charge after authorities said he was found with an electric bike that had previously been reported stolen.
According to court records, 42-year-old Timothy Moore was charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony.
The case stems from an investigation that began on February 9, when officers reportedly discovered Moore in possession of an e-bike valued at approximately $1,800. Investigators said the bike had been listed as stolen.
Police said Moore told officers he had purchased the e-bike for $400 but could not identify the person who sold it to him. Authorities also stated that Moore claimed to have a bill of sale but was unable to provide any documentation when requested.
A warrant for Moore’s arrest was issued on May 26. He was taken into custody on May 29 and transported to the Wapello County Jail.
Jail records show Moore later posted a $5,000 bond and was released pending further court proceedings.
A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for June 2.
As with all criminal cases, the charge remains an allegation, and Moore is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
