A 10-year-old boy is dead after a CAL FIRE engine responding to an emergency collided with a civilian vehicle in the Hemet Valley area, authorities confirmed.
The fire truck was en route to a vegetation fire burning in the San Bernardino National Forest, east of Highway 74, when the crash occurred.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the child’s death. His identity has not been released.
Two other civilians and three firefighters were also hurt in the collision. Their injuries ranged from minor to major, and all were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
It is unclear what caused the crash. No details have been released on speed, road conditions, or the sequence of events leading up to the impact.
The accident remains under active investigation by the CHP
