He Drove Into a Crowd After a Party Was Shut Down. One Woman Didn't Make It Home.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A 20-year-old woman is dead and four others are recovering from serious injuries after a San Bernardino man allegedly steered his car directly into a group of people standing on a residential street in the early morning hours of May 24.

The victim, Daisy Sandoval of San Bernardino, was pronounced dead at the scene on the 3500 block of Franklin Avenue in Riverside’s Eastside neighborhood. Authorities say she was struck by a vehicle driven intentionally into a crowd gathered outside after a late-night party.

“Two of the other victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Two more suffered serious injuries.”

According to the Riverside Police Department, the evening had already been on a collision course. Officers had shut down a so-called “flyer party” in the area earlier that night. After the event was dispersed, a robbery unfolded in the street — followed by a physical altercation.

That’s when investigators say 19-year-old Brian Sandoval used his vehicle as a weapon, driving into multiple people involved in the confrontation.

Sandoval was taken into custody at the scene. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on a murder charge and is being held on $1 million bail.

Police have not confirmed whether Brian and Daisy Sandoval were acquainted. The investigation remains ongoing.
