Bronx Woman, 23, Shot in the Head Outside Children's Playground — Killer Still on the Loose

BRONX, NEW YORK — A young woman’s life was cut short in one of the most heartbreaking ways imaginable — shot in the head steps away from a children’s playground in the middle of the night.

Reyna Caceres, just 23 years old, was gunned down outside Acqueduct Lands Playground in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx early Thursday morning. It was just after midnight when a single bullet struck her in the left eye. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

She never had a chance.

What We Know So Far

Police confirmed Caceres was hit once — a single, fatal shot to the head. The location makes this tragedy even more unsettling. Acqueduct Lands Playground is a community space meant for children and families. Instead, it became a crime scene in the dead of night.

As of early Thursday morning, the NYPD had not released any suspect description. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors and local residents are left with more questions than answers — who did this, and why?

A Community Left Shaken

The Bronx has seen its share of violence, but a young woman losing her life outside a playground hits differently. Reyna Caceres was someone’s daughter, someone’s friend — only 23 years old with her whole life ahead of her.

Right now, her killer is still out there.
