A routine trip to pick up a friend turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 23-year-old Michigan man — and now the suspect is behind bars.
The incident unfolded on May 24 around 5:48 p.m. when the Eastpointe man drove to Detroit to pick up a friend. That’s when an unknown man jumped into his car armed with a gun and made a chilling demand: drive — or get shot.
The victim had no choice but to comply.
He was forced to drive all the way to Pontiac, not knowing where he was being taken or what would happen when they got there. When he finally reached the People’s Market, he spotted his chance — and ran.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Within hours, they had a name: Demarco Roosevelt Bradberry Jr., 20, of Detroit.
Bradberry was arrested during a traffic stop.
He now faces a serious list of charges — armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and three counts of felony firearm. He was denied bond and remains held at the Oakland County Jail.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard didn’t hold back when describing what the victim went through.
“Imagine how terrifying it would be to have someone jump in your car, point a gun at you and make you drive to a destination you had no idea where or what the outcome would be,” Bouchard said. “I’m proud of the work of our team to not only identify but locate and arrest this suspect so he can be brought to the bar of justice.”
