She Watched Him Sleep — Then Pulled the Trigger: Ohio Woman Charged With Trying to Kill Her Ex-Husband in His Own Bedroom

A 31-year-old broke into her sleeping ex-husband’s home in the dead of night, fired two shots, and now faces attempted murder charges — all while he lay defenseless in bed.

He was asleep. His doors were locked. He had no idea she was coming — but Amanda Heller allegedly did.

In the early hours of April 26, Heller, 31, allegedly broke into the Williams County, Ohio home of her ex-husband while he lay sleeping, threatened to kill him, and fired a handgun twice inside the house, according to a criminal complaint filed in Bryan Municipal Court.

By some miracle, no one was hit. There were no other people in the home at the time. But what happened inside those four walls that night has landed Heller behind bars — and facing a list of charges serious enough to put her away for years.

Authorities arrested Heller on May 21, nearly a month after the alleged break-in. She was initially booked on felonious assault. But as investigators dug deeper, the charges escalated dramatically. A Williams County grand jury later indicted her on four counts: attempted aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, domestic violence, and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation.

She remains in custody at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. A judge set her bond at $100,000 — and made one thing crystal clear: if she walks free, she is not to contact her ex-husband under any circumstances.

What happens next: Heller is scheduled to appear in Williams County Court of Common Pleas on June 22. If convicted on the attempted aggravated murder charge alone, she could face decades behind bars. For her ex-husband, the nightmare may be over — but the court battle is just beginning.

He survived the bullets. Now the justice system has to do the rest.
