New teachers join Bellevue East faculty

Q: What is your favorite thing about Bellevue East High School?
A: “I really like East because of the great staff and students that I get to work with and it’s a really great culture. I love just meeting all the different students and getting to build great relationships.”
Benjamin Dalton
UNO-Business admin with concentrations in marketing and management
Subject: Personal Finance, Marketing and Leadership
Q: What do you think is your most important role as a teacher?
A: “Managing the classroom and ensuring student success. It’s my duty to make sure that I’m reaching all of those people and giving them the best development. It’s pretty rewarding if you figure out how to make sure all your students are achieving what they can achieve at different levels.”
Chara Eckery

Q: What impact do you hope to make on the world through teaching?
A: “Creating problem-solvers, whether they stick with math or not, math skills are problem solving. Identify a problem. How can you figure out how to solve it and then actually doing it or knowing if you need to go get help? Those are very important lifelong skills.”

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?
A: “The relationships I get to build with each student. I feel like each one has their own relationship with each one and they all have different personalities so getting to be in their shoes and learning from them as much as I can to provide what they need.”

Q: What has been your favorite memory of teaching so far?
A:“I taught the entire section incorrectly to this class and I panicked. I froze because I was like ‘oh my gosh, I just spent this whole hour teaching it wrong’ and a student stood up, came up, and started teaching the lesson with me and it was the coolest experience as a teacher. You can learn from your mistakes is the big picture from that.”

Q:What keeps you motivated as a teacher?
A:“It’s the students. I’m looking forward to watching the freshmen grow and blossom into seniors. One of my favorite things the district does is the senior walk. I go to Betz every year and participate in that senior walk and it’s just nice to see where the students end up.”

Q: What impact do you hope to make on the world through teaching?
A: “The impact that I hope to make is that everyday we can be better people. We can be professional, be kind, be respectful, and it starts throughout our schools one person at a time. It’s just knowing that we are important, every individual person is special in this world, so if i can do that in any capacity that would be amazing.”
Kristin Burt

Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?
A: “I decided to become a teacher because I had some really terrible math teachers in my life, so I needed to become a math teacher so that kids today and my own children have better influences in their math education.”
