- Victim Michael More had blunt force trauma to his head and a puncture wound to his back.

- Sheffield police say this is only the second homicide the town has seen in six years.
SHEFFIELD, Mass. — A quiet greenhouse in the small town of Ashley Falls became the center of a rare murder investigation this week — and what happened next left even local police stunned.
Connecticut State Police received a call Monday about a body discovered at 546 Polikof Road. Sheffield officers responded and found 40-year-old Michael More of Winsted, Connecticut, dead inside a greenhouse on the property.
The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office said More had suffered blunt force trauma to his head and a puncture wound to his back.
A Town That Almost Never Sees This
Sheffield is not the kind of place where homicides happen.
Sheffield Police Chief Eric Munson told NewsChannel 13 that the last murder he could recall in the town was roughly six years ago.
“It was a little strange, I will admit,” Munson said.
For a department that rarely deals with violent crime, this case arrived without warning — and with details that only deepened the mystery.
Suspect Walked Back to the Scene
Investigators say 41-year-old Cole Bushnell was not at the property when officers arrived.
He returned hours later — after reportedly being told his house was on fire.
What officers noticed immediately was hard to ignore. Bushnell’s clothing was stained with blood.
Chief Munson described the moment Bushnell showed up as unsettling.
“He showed up like he was coming home from work type of situation. And was very confused as to why all this was happening around his house,” Munson said.
Charged With Murder, Held Without Bail
Authorities arrested Bushnell and charged him with murder.
He was arraigned Tuesday and is currently being held without bail.
The investigation is being handled jointly by Sheffield police and the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
No motive has been made public, and the case remains under active investigation.
A Community Left With Questions
For a town as small and tight-knit as Sheffield, a murder inside a neighborhood greenhouse is the kind of event that does not fade quickly.
Residents are left wondering how something this violent happened so close to home — and what the full story behind it really is.
Authorities have not released further details about the relationship between More and Bushnell, or what may have taken place inside that greenhouse before Monday’s grim discovery.
