BRISTOL, Connecticut — A routine traffic stop turned into a foot chase, a hidden suspect, and the discovery of a weapon loaded with armor-piercing rounds — all unfolding in a quiet residential neighborhood just before 6 p.m.
Bristol police officers spotted a stolen vehicle at around 5:55 p.m. and moved in to make a stop.
The driver refused.
Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away from officers. The pursuit was brief. The stolen vehicle was soon abandoned — and the occupants scattered on foot into the surrounding neighborhood.
Suspect Found Hiding in a Nearby Yard
Officers immediately fanned out and began searching the area.
It did not take long.
Police found 19-year-old Ronnie Robernson Cajou, Jr. crouched and hiding in the yard of a nearby residence — close to where the stolen car had been left behind.
He was taken into custody without a struggle.
A Loaded Gun With Armor-Piercing Rounds
What officers found inside the stolen vehicle made the arrest even more serious.
A loaded handgun was recovered from inside the car. The firearm was not just loaded — it was loaded with armor-piercing ammunition, a detail that elevated the danger level of the entire incident significantly.
Both the gun and the ammunition were seized as evidence.
Charges and Bond
Cajou now faces a long list of charges. They include criminal possession of a firearm and interfering with an officer, among others.
A judge set his bond at $100,000.
Investigation Still Active
Bristol police say the investigation is not over.
Additional arrests and charges are possible as detectives continue to piece together the full picture of what happened.
