MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — A Milwaukee father of four went to work on a Monday morning and never came home.

Dylan Plouff, 34, was working security at the MacArthur Square Parking Lot on the morning of May 18 when police say he encountered a suspect attempting to break into vehicles.

The confrontation turned violent. Plouff was attacked and rushed to the hospital.

He fought for five days.

On May 22, he was gone.

He Was Just Doing His Job

Plouff’s aunt, Nicky Horn, was at the hospital for nearly every hour of those five days.

“Just trying to do his job,” she said. “We were up at the hospital 13 to 14 hours a day not knowing what was going to happen.”

The medical examiner has ruled Dylan Plouff’s death a homicide.

His family is now left trying to make sense of a loss that feels impossible to accept.

“He was a really great, fantastic person, and we all love him so much,” Horn said. “Just the thought of him not being here anymore — it’s so hard to believe. It’s just not fair.”

Four Kids Left Without Their Father

Plouff leaves behind four children — an 18-year-old, an 11-year-old, an 8-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

His aunt says he was devoted to every one of them.

“Those kids meant the world to him,” Horn said. “He did everything. He was a great provider for those children.”

The youngest ones are struggling in a way that breaks the family’s heart.

“It’s hard for them, especially the little ones who don’t really understand what’s going on.”

Suspect Arrested — But Charges Still Pending

A 32-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the attack.

The individual is currently facing charges in a separate assault case. Charges related to Plouff’s death have been referred to the Milwaukee District Attorney’s office, but remain pending as investigators continue their work.

For the family, the waiting is its own kind of pain.

“We want justice to be served for Dylan,” Horn said. “And for other families that have to deal with these situations where these criminals are walking around and causing problems and they’re getting away with it.”

A Community Grief

Dylan Plouff showed up to protect others. He was doing exactly that when his life was taken.

His family is not only mourning — they are speaking out, because they believe his story deserves to be heard and his death deserves accountability.

The investigation remains ongoing. No trial date has been set.

Milwaukee’s community is watching to see what justice looks like for a father of four who simply went to work one Monday morning and never made it home.
