Former IRS Employee Says Rat Infestation at Georgia Office Forced Her to Quit

A former employee at an Internal Revenue Service office in Chamblee, Georgia, says ongoing concerns about a rat infestation inside the building led her to resign from her position.

Sydney Monger, who worked at the IRS facility on Chamblee Tucker Road, said she became increasingly worried about health and safety conditions after rodents began appearing throughout the office.

According to Monger, employees noticed a significant increase in rat activity when they returned to work after the Memorial Day holiday. What initially seemed like isolated sightings quickly turned into a larger concern as rodents were reportedly seen moving through different areas of the building.

“It became clear that this wasn’t just a one-time issue,” Monger said. “People were seeing rats running around the office, and it was making employees uncomfortable.”

She claimed that pest control efforts were underway, with traps placed throughout the workplace, including near employee workstations and cubicles. Monger said rodents were being caught regularly, but the sightings continued.

The former employee said she ultimately decided to leave her job because she no longer felt comfortable working in the environment.

“I was worried about being exposed to diseases or getting bitten,” she said. “For me, it reached a point where I felt I needed to step away.”

A video circulating online appears to show a dead rat being discovered inside a trash can at the office, further drawing attention to the reported infestation.

In response to concerns, the IRS acknowledged that the building has experienced rodent-related issues and said efforts are underway to investigate and address the situation.

Officials stated that large buildings located in urban areas can occasionally face pest challenges and that steps are being taken to remediate the problem.

The situation has raised concerns among employees about workplace conditions while remediation efforts continue at the facility.
