A 43-year-old Denton man lost his life at Lewisville Lake Sunday evening after falling into the water while attempting to dock a boat with his brother near Eagle Point Marina, authorities confirmed.
Jeffrey Poarch was pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m. after a desperate rescue effort failed to save him.
What Happened
Around 7 p.m., Poarch and his brother were docking their boat when he slipped into the water and could not get back on board or reach the dock safely. His brother managed to bring him back to shore, where CPR was immediately started.
Lewisville Fire Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) personnel rushed to the scene. First responders found Poarch unconscious and continued resuscitation efforts before transporting him to a nearby hospital — where he was pronounced dead.
“Our thoughts are with Mr. Poarch’s family and friends during this difficult time,” TPWD said in a statement.
A Dangerous Pattern at Local Lakes
This tragedy is not an isolated incident. Just two months ago, in March, a 27-year-old man drowned at nearby Grapevine Lake after falling off a dock near Twin Coves Marina.
Lewisville Lake and other southern Denton County lakes have seen a troubling pattern of drowning incidents — raising serious concerns about water safety, especially during busy holiday weekends.
Authorities have not released further details. An investigation is ongoing.
